DISTRIBUTED GENERATION (DG)

Improve reliability... Financial Incentives available

Renewable Energy

Distributed Generation (DG), involves using existing and readily available technology to empower practically every industrial facility, factory, campus, hospital, hotel, commercial building, department store, apartment and house to generate enough electricity to satisfy its own needs under normal conditions and have back-up power when there is a blackout. Electricity customers don’t have to rely exclusively on “central” generation via the large power plants that transmit power over distances and then deliver it through local utility distribution systems. DG technologies include fuel cells, microturbines, solar, wind, hydro, landfill and other technologies. DG systems can improve reliability, reduce emissions, and expand clients’ energy options. DG may add redundancy that increases grid security even while powering emergency lighting or other critical systems.

Tychon will work with its clients to evaluate their potential to deploy DG technology, especially fuel cells and microturbines as these technologies receive significant state and federal subsidies. Tychon will bring to each client the significant financial potential contained in Connecticut Public Act 05-01, An Act Concerning Energy Independence. This major legislation establishes several initiatives to reduce charges associated with congestion on Connecticut’s electric transmission system. Incentives are provided for electricity customers to install DG resources on their premises. These resources include small and medium size generating facilities and conservation and load management measures. The incentives include capital and operating cost subsidies and the provision of long-term financing.
